Scooter or car in Bali
Choose around your passengers, luggage and everyday trips, as well as what you're comfortable driving or riding.
Short trips around your accommodation
A scooter is practical for one person or two travelling light, especially for short trips around Canggu and Seminyak where parking matters. You need to be comfortable riding with a passenger if someone is coming with you.
If you're not an experienced rider, don't choose a scooter just because it's smaller. A manual motorbike also requires experience with a clutch and gears.
Travelling with family or luggage
A car makes sense for airport bags, groceries and trips with more than two people. Tell us how many passengers and bags you're bringing so we can check which model has enough room.
One bike carries a rider and one passenger at most. Three people need a car or two bikes with two suitably licensed riders.
For arrival with suitcases, you can collect a car at DPS airport. If you prefer a scooter during your stay, take your bags to your accommodation first and have the bike delivered there.
Rainy days and longer trips
A car keeps you out of the rain and is a practical option for day trips to Ubud or the east coast. It still needs somewhere to park at your destination.
An experienced motorcyclist may prefer the ride itself. Think about the distance, the weather and whether your passenger is comfortable with the plan. Our rainy-season guide covers riding in wet weather.
